As a Nashville native, Steve has witnessed the region’s exploding growth and vitality. While practicing architecture with one of Nashville’s largest firms and then honing his project management capabilities with a national for-profit healthcare company, he successfully completed well over a hundred projects with a value exceeding $2 billion. From complex additions and renovations to ground-up developments, he provides the leadership and technical knowledge necessary to achieve consistent and efficient planning, budgeting, and execution of capital projects. Emphasis is placed on adding value for clients by optimizing the performance of multi-disciplinary project teams using integrated project delivery methods that promote team collaboration and continuous improvement.
Strategic thinking and problem solving are among his strengths, enabling him to visualize the end product and spatial relationships, as well as complex construction sequencing. Steve understands the community impact of the buildings and spaces developed, and works with owners, developers, and the project team to maximize the return on investment and improve the community. the property and building committees, Steve gained invaluable insight allowing him to empathize and better understand his clients.
Joe has always been intrigued with building. While attending Vanderbilt University, he spent summers framing houses, appreciating the tangible results accomplished at the end of a hard day’s work. His experience in design and construction – first working for The Beck Group, a national construction management and architecture firm, then on the owner’s side managing multi-million dollar developments – shaped his understanding of the process between creative design and real-life construction, allowing him to identify and solve problems before becoming issues in the field.
Before founding CAPEX, Joe managed over $2 billion of new, expansion, acquisition, and remodel development for TRT Holdings, the ownership entity for Omni Hotels and Gold's Gym International. As Vice President of Design and Construction at TRT, he grew the Design and Construction team from five to 22.
Joe focuses on minimizing risk, cultivating team dynamics, and getting the right resources involved to develop solutions.
